Nothing great comes from fear.
And probably the biggest thing I see holding people back from reaching their goals is the fear of failure. Most of us see failure as something that is unacceptable, and we let that fear stop us from trying the things we want to go for the most.
If you’ve ever wanted to go after something, but haven’t because you’re afraid you might fail, put “me” in the comments below.
I know the fear of failure. I had it when I started my side hustle and again when I made the leap to working for myself full-time. It’s 100% normal.
I wouldn’t have the multiple six-figure businesses I have today if I had let the fear of failure get in my way or stop me from going after my dreams and goals. And we should be more afraid of another fear, the fear of not going for what we really want!
Here are three ways you can you get past your fear of failure, so you can accomplish the great things you’re meant to do:
Stop caring about what other people think.
Oftentimes, when we are afraid of failure, it is because we are afraid of what other people will say or think about us. You will NEVER be happy nor will you accomplish what you want to accomplish if you care about what other people think.
You are the only one who knows what will truly make you happy, and you’re the only one who knows what you’re capable of. If you believe in your endeavor, that fear won’t disappear, but it will fade because what other people think will stop phasing you.
Stop listening to others opinions if they haven’t accomplished what you’re trying to accomplish!
This is a big one! Everyone likes to have opinions, but usually, those opinions aren’t grounded from experience. Don’t take business advice or listen to the opinions of someone who hasn’t accomplished what you’re after. This is like taking financial advice from your cousin who filed for bankruptcy last month…and you wouldn’t do that, right?
If someone in your crew is telling you your idea is crazy or you’re never going to accomplish your goals, stop talking about it with them. You can stay their friend (or family member) but you don’t need that negativity when you’re already putting yourself out there, trying new things, and getting out of your comfort zone. Find a community of others who are going after their dreams and who are going to encourage you, not bring you down.
Know you’re going to fail.
No one likes to fail, but every single person you look up to and admire has failed multiple times to get to where they are today.
I’m going to give you a minute for that to soak in!
The first time I launched an online program I had two people sign up… TWO. And that was after spending $2,500 on advertising. I could have thrown in the towel, said I failed and stopped there. Instead, I learned a lot from that experience, continued and still continue to refine my online programs. Now I have helped over 500 amazing, ambitious individuals start and grow their own side hustle!
BONUS: If you’re afraid of failure, work with someone who has accomplished what you’re going after, whether that is purchasing a course or membership or working with a coach. Working with someone who has accomplished what you want will help you avoid some of the mistakes and failures that you fear!
Here is the truth. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different outcome. If you want something different in your life, you’re going to have to do things you’ve never done before.
Yes, that means you’re going to do things that are out of your comfort zone.
Yes, that means you’re going to fail from time to time.
But you know what?
FAIL = First Attempt in Learning
As James Wedmore says, there is no such thing as failure. There are only lessons. If things don’t go as planned, it’s okay. It just means you needed to learn before continuing on to the great things you’re working towards.
Fear paralyzes growth, and the only time you fail is when you give up.
Now one of the best ways to get over your fear of failure is by having a plan, which is why I’ve created the free training: 5 Steps to Building Your Six-Figure Side Hustle.
