Our team is growing! Baby K is on the way

Our family is growing! Baby K is due this September.

Summer and Autumn sharing the news. #gameofthrones 😉

I cannot express into words how excited we are to become parents! Human parents that is, the beagles are still trying to figure out what is going on 🙂

HOW DID WE FIND OUT

I was a day late and had zero PMS symptoms, so I had a feeling it was time to take a pregnancy test.

I woke up before Sam on the first Sunday morning after the new year and immediately took a pregnancy test. While I was waiting on the results, Sam woke up and starting making coffee in the kitchen. He had no idea I was taking a pregnancy test.

Back to the bathroom… I waited and waited, and felt like I knew it was going to be positive.

Then just like that, it said “PREGNANT”.

I immediately started crying happy tears, ran into the kitchen, and told Sam, “I’m pregnant. We’re going to be parents!”. I will never forget the big smile on his face 🙂

HOW WAS THE FIRST TRIMESTER

What you hear is true. The symptoms start rolling in quickly. For me that meant, extreme exhaustion and unfortunately migraines. Oh, and peeing ALL THE TIME. I totally thought going to the bathroom five times an hour was a late pregnancy symptom, but apparently not. Thanks hormones 😉

When I say extreme exhaustion, I mean I was sleeping for 11 hours at night and then taking two hour naps in the afternoon on a daily basis for weeks. I was so thankful to work at home during this time so that I could sleep when needed. I think this also helped me limited my nausea as much as possible.

Migraines. Woof. I have never really dealt with migraines before, but I was having one or two per week for over a month and each one would last for days. This was usually when I was the most nauseas too. Thankfully, they’ve gotten a lot better and fewer since hitting the second trimester.

1st TRIMESTER & MY BUSINESS

Since I was exhausted all the time and dealing with migraines, all of my energy was spent on client work and the things that really had to get done. There were projects that I had planned to get through in January and February that did not get completed, but I am really okay with it. If anything, it helped me really think about the things I should be focusing on instead of trying to do more.

I also relied heavily on my team, which has also helped with me handing off more daily tasks and focusing on the things that I need to prioritize.

TIPS & PRODUCTS THAT HELPED DURING THE FIRST FEW MONTHS

Obviously, everyone is different and I am not a medical professional, but here are some things that helped me the first few months.

Crackers: I ate a few crackers before even rolling out of bed and that seemed to really help with nausea in the morning.

Pasta: Pasta became my new best friend. Often times when I couldn’t keep much down, Sam would make me buttered noodles (yes, like a three year old). The carbs gave me some energy, and I was happy to have something in my stomach.

H2O: Ice water all day, every day. I finally realized that a lot of my headaches were being brought on by dehydration. Even though I am usually good about always having my water bottle with me, the amount of water I need now is a lot more. I feel like I’m drinking water constantly, but it has really made a difference with my headaches and energy.

Essential Oils: I had never really used essential oils before, but they were introduced to me again in a prenatal yoga class and I am loving them. Peppermint really helped anytime I felt nauseous (especially on a plane or in the car), and lavender has helped me tremendously with my headaches and sleeping. I run a diffuser with it at night and apply it to the bottom of my feet. I personally have been using Doterra products.

HOW I AM CURRENTLY FEELING

I feel so good and am so excited! I am really trying to limit stress, enjoy everyday, and not get overwhelmed by the 800 different types of strollers to pick from for our registry 🙂

I have also gone from finding most food repulsive to hungry all the time. Sam laughs at me because I now always have snacks in my purse — guess I’m just preparing for motherhood!

This is a new chapter of our lives and a new chapter in my business, so I will continue to keep you updated on this journey!
