Also, I’m more of a spreadsheets person than a “words person” — ironic I know since I’m writing a blog.
It wasn’t until I started understanding the power of mindset and meditation that the idea of daily journaling appealed to me. This happened to be around the same time I was introduced to the Best Self Co. 90 Day Self Journal (you can read more about it and why I believe it is the BEST planner for entrepreneurs here), which incorporates planning, productivity, and daily journaling.
My Daily Journal Practice
Start by writing down your big, crazy goal
I love starting with my big, crazy goal because it helps me stay focused and motivated. It also doesn’t seem as crazy or as big writing it down on a daily basis. For some reason, it makes it feel more “normal” or realistic seeing it day after day. Right now, this is my goal monthly income, but it can be anything that is meaningful for you.
Positive Affirmations
If you’re not familiar with affirmations, they are statements that are meant to encourage and uplift you, but they have some specific things that make them very powerful.
- They are always positive.
- They are always in present tense.
For example, if a goal of yours is to lose weight instead of writing down “I will lose weight” you’d write down something like “My body is healthy and full of energy”.
Or let’s say you are unhappy in your job. Instead of saying, “I will find a better job” your affirmation could be “I am enthusiastic and excited about my work.”
See the pattern? All positive. All present tense.
One other key to making affirmations work for you is be repeating them over and over again. I’ve been writing down the same 5 affirmation daily for about six months. This repetition helps build your confidence and your mindset, which ultimately leads to you taking the actions you need to take to make them happen!
Appreciation & Gratitude
Every day I write down 3- 5 things I am grateful for and appreciate in my life. It can be as simple as the beautiful weather and a great walk with Sam and the beagles. The point it is, by writing down what you’re grateful for and appreciate, you are focusing on the POSITIVE things in your life.
Wins
The last thing I do every day is write down my wins, aka accomplishments, for the day. Even if it is seems small, like staying calm when Facebook Ads Manager is being buggy and I need to launch a campaign, or getting on the treadmill even though I really just wanted to sit on the couch and watch another rerun of Fixer Upper, celebrating your wins helps confidence and realize how much you accomplish every single day.
Of course, I put the big stuff here too — landing new clients, paying off debt, etc. — but if there is anything I’ve learned over that bast 2.5 years it is that the small accomplishments are what lead you to the big wins.
If you haven’t noticed the theme to almost every aspect of my journaling practice yet, it is POSITIVITY because positivity is what changes your mindset and your mindset is what leads you to success. Which is why…
